Hi there, I’m CHRIS GREGORY.
I’m a writer, teacher and proof reader and I’m offering an educational support and proof reading service to students with a difference!
As you’ll see after a quick Google search, proofreading is a pretty big business nowadays. There are many online companies who specialise in offering a ‘professional service’ a ‘quick turnaround’ and ‘value for money’, as if your academic work is just another ‘product’ to be ‘processed’. Many of these companies are unconcerned about any of the ethical issues involved. Meanwhile, they pay their own staff a pittance while creaming off huge profits for themselves.
In contrast, my aim is to work on a PERSONAL level with you in order to use the process of proofreading to enhance your own education, especially your use of the English language. In doing so I can offer the option of providing positive, helpful and detailed FEEDBACK on your work, in order to help you improve in the future. This can be done in whatever way suits you, via email, Skype ‘video calling’ or (if you live reasonably near the Lancaster area where I live) through personal contact.
I also aim to provide this service at a reasonable, competitive rate.
I’m happy to work with students engaged in the whole range of academic disciplines, from sciences to business studies to the arts (and everything in between!). I can help any users of English improve their expression and I especially welcome ESL (English as a Second Language) students.

HOW I CAN HELP
Of course, when you hand in your thesis, essay or dissertation you’ll want it to be free of errors. I will check your work for spelling, grammatical features, sentence structure, appropriate use of English idiom and the use of academic or non-academic expression. I will also check your use of references and formatting.
I can also offer reasonably priced FEEDBACK sessions in which I can offer professional help and advice with your English writing skills. My aim is to forge a partnership with you in order to enhance both your competence and confidence in English. This will help you improve your expression in English.
I also specialise in helping you construct CVs and PERSONAL STATEMENTS, in order to help you move into the world of work or apply for new courses.

SOME DETAILS ABOUT MYSELF
OK, time for me to ‘blow my own trumpet’ a bit here. (Note the distinctive use of English idiom!)
I guess I’m an ideal person to provide this kind of service because I have wide experience in a number of relevant fields. Firstly, I’m a published author myself. I’ve had three non-fiction books published as well as a number of short stories and poems (If you like you can see some details of my work at my website http://www.chrisgregory.org and my blog http://www.chrisgregory.org/blog ). I have an MA in Creative Writing (as well as a BA in English) and have taught a number of CREATIVE WRITING classes over the years. So I’ve studied and practised the creative use of language in detail.
I also have over thirty years experience as a teacher and lecturer in schools and in further and higher education. In recent years I’ve concentrated on one to one personal tuition, which I have found to be the most rewarding form of teaching and by far the most effective form of learning. In offering you the FEEDBACK service I can use all this experience in providing the ‘PERSONAL TOUCH’ to help you make progress.
Over the past twenty five years I spent much of my summers (while everybody else is out enjoying themselves!) as an EXAMINER for a range of examining boards and a number of different subjects. I’m thus highly trained in various methods of assessment.
And last (and of course, not least!) I have extensive experience over several decades as a freelance PROOF READER, working both independently and for a range of companies, and handling work from right across the academic spectrum.

HOW IT ALL WORKS
First, send me a sample of your work (in Microsoft Word) to chrisgregory@myloss.net
I’ll then have a quick look at it and quote you a price. Obviously I have to charge a bit more if the proof reading will take more time. I’m generally happy to negotiate a price with you but here are a few guidelines:
-BASIC RATE FOR PROOFREADING IS £8 PER 1000 WORDS (This applies to most people!)
-PROOFREADING THAT REQUIRES MORE DETAILED WORK: BETWEEN £9 AND £15 PER 1000 WORDS (This could be reduced if we can work together successfully!)
-FEEDBACK SESSIONS COST £20 FOR AN HOUR (or £10 for half an hour on Skype)
Payment is made (by direct bank transfer or Pay Pal) when you have received the work back and are happy with the final result. We can discuss further changes to your work in feedback sessions if necessary
