Borthwick Guitar Studio

General information

Calum Scott Borthwick was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. Surrounded by music from infancy, he developed an appreciation for the art of classical guitar which would ultimately lead him to a successful academic career and a fruitful vocation as an instructor.

Initially pursuing his talents at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Calum received his Bachelor of Arts with honors. From there, he was urged to seek higher accreditation based on scholarship-worthy aptitude and passion and traveled over 4,000 miles to Colorado where he went on to achieve a Master of Music degree from the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music. He has studied under such names as: Dr. Peter Argondizza, Ricardo Iznaola, and Jonathan Leathwood.

As a solo performer, Calum has played house concerts and major events throughout Scotland as well as the Denver Metro area.

He has now joined forces with friend and colleague Russ Callison to form a classical duo—their first performance together was for DU’s Sesquicentennial Gala in front of more than 1,000 attendees.

A deep love of chamber music has also led him to collaborate with other musicians across the instrumental spectrum, including but not limited to: vocalists, trumpeters, flautists, and violinists.

Beyond the classical realm, Calum has deep roots in electric guitar, as well, playing and recording with various bands. He and colleagues from the University of Strathclyde self-recorded and released an album under the name Sing-Kill-Worth, and his technical metal band, Zachariah, released multiple EPs.
