Risca United A.F.C.

General information

This is time of rebuilding for Risca United. The club currently competes and runs 3 sides in the Welsh Football League, 1 in the new Welsh Premier Development League (South) and 7 FAW Academy sides.

The First Team managed by Simon Berry and assisted by Ricky Malson, will compete in the Welsh League Division Two following relegation in a tough 2016/17 season that saw much change. We look to get the show back on the road, relegation was a set back after achieving back to back promotions in 2013/14 and 2014/15.

Being a victim of our own success almost as the club made fantastic progress on and off the field in recent years and we look to re-igniting and building on the progress from recent years. We will look forward to continuing to play 1st team, U19 development and WPL academy home games at the prestigious CCB Centre For Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach, with a state of the art 3G surface and fantastic facilities.

For 2017/18 season we will continue to operate multiple Youth Teams competing at the highest level; 1 in the newly formed Welsh Premier Development League (South) and 1 in the Welsh Youth League (East).

2017/18 will see the fourth season for our FAW Academy. The first season was an amazing success with the U12s becoming WPL Academy Champions after beating Bala Town 5-1 in the final at Newtown. In 2016/17 two sides reached the national finals with the U12s and U14s becoming runners-up to Bala Town and Bangor City respectively. Getting 2 sides into the finals was a fantastic achievement. The U12s to U16s will play in the FAW Academy League and English Schools competition, with the U11s to U16's representing Caerphilly Schools in the Welsh Schools competition.
