Rhondda Foodbank Company Information
General information
The Rhondda Foodbank was opened in December 2009 by Acts Community Church in partnership with the Trussel Trust to provide emergency food to people in crisis. Since then have been feeding more than 2000 people each year, 40% of whom are children.
We rely on the local community to donate food, money and their time as volunteers to keep us going.
People donate any food, from packets of pasta to tinned tomatoes etc as long as they are non-perishable and are in-date.
Schools, churches and businesses also contribute.
Food is also often donated through Supermarket Collections. Volunteers give shoppers a ‘foodbank shopping list’, asking them to buy an extra item or two to donate.
Volunteers then sort through this food to check that it is in date and pack it in shopping bags ready to be picked up by the clients.
The people in crisis are identified by care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers etc. They send them to us with a voucher that they bring to the foodbank to exchange with three days worth of food.
