What Really Matters in Life

Before I was 45 during a space of 2.5 years 3 of my dearest friends and inspirational mentors died.
Although older than me they were all young with big appetites for life. Each of them was involved in creating, contributing, collaborating and connecting. Each of them had future plans.
These untimely deaths in quick succession delivered a stirring wake-up call for me.
The big lesson I took from this very sad experience was - today is it! There is no guarantee beyond that.
I made a commitment to live today in the way that is most meaningful and enjoyable to me, to do the things that are important to me, spend time with people I love and to make my best contribution in the world here and now.
I decided to stop waiting for the right conditions or circumstances.
I decided to take stock and find out what my priorities would be if I gave myself permission and the time and space to discover.

As you can imagine that starting point was a low place and my journey since has required much healing. I am so very grateful to my dear friends Linda, Pat and Andy. They showed me in life by example and taught me by their deaths, that I, and you, have the power to create the quality of life we want, and devote time and energy to following our dreams and living our purpose.

My life purpose and career practise has long been empowering people to be their best selves, whatever that looks like for them.
At 45 I began to apply my purpose fully to myself.
It turns out being my best self involves enjoying life much more daily, less survival, more fun. Looking after myself well, physically, mentally, emotionally. I’m much, much kinder to myself than I used to be, a lot less pushing, driving, judging. It involves entertaining my dreams, preferences, passions. Being creative. Doing well paid meaningful work with people I love working with and having time freedom. I spend more time in nature and more time being with my nearest and dearest.
In the beautiful way life so often works, this experience led me into my next chapter coaching women and men in their 40’s and 50’s to own how splendid and magnificent you are and always have been, to see the beauty, value, power and meaning in who you are and in your unique journey, and to live your life today in a way that honours you and your priorities, passions and values.
