General information

Located in The Walk, Roath; Cardiff YMCA houses a hireable 139 Seat Theatre; Gymnasium, and a number of Air Conditioned Meeting Rooms all equipped with State of the Art Audio Visual Technology and has over a Century of history. Located close to the centre of the Welsh Capital, we are committed to upholding the ethos of the worldwide YMCA and its aims and principles. Additionally, we also own Llwynarthen Cricket Ground in St Mellons, the home of Lisvane Cricket Club a Cardiff YMCA Membership Group; arguably the largest Cricket Club in Wales.

Cardiff YMCA continues to promote opportunities for Children; Young People and the Community at large to gain knowledge; skills and experience and realise their full potential. Programmes are continually under development, encouraging personal improvement; Self Awareness and Self-Acceptance; and supporting the making of informed life decisions.

Our work includes a Young Carers Support Project “Time 4 Me” currently funded by the “Lloyds TSB Foundation” and “BBC Children in Need”. The Project is open to Young Carers throughout the City, providing respite fun; activities; advocacy and more recently a Young Carers Forum.

Our Youth and Community Department, deliver a range of issue based informal education programmes and workshops addressing many diverse issues delivered throughout the City by outreach programmes, in Youth Centres; Schools and Colleges; Alternative Curriculum Education Facilities; at Community First Partnerships; Family Centres and at Statutory and Charitable Organisations. We target those disadvantaged by learning difficulties; ethnic minority groups; disaffected young people facing exclusion; Young Carers; young mums; the homeless, and young people affected by the criminal justice system.

Working in Partnership with the Cardiff Local Health Board we also administer the “C Card” (Condom Card) Scheme; providing Young People with information; support, and following individual assessment free condoms.

Our innovative new Bike Club launched in February 2011 provides Young People between the ages of 10 and 20 years with free cycle training; encouraging the use of cycling to promote both sustainability and healthy lifestyles.

Our "open to all" Membership Groups include an Amateur Theatre Group the “Cardiff YMCA Players”, a “Chess Club”; “Cardiff YMCA Martynell Dancers”, and “Lisvane Cricket Club”.
