I am delighted to be writing the introduction for this brochure of courses provided through Harrow Adult Community & Family Learning Service. In challenging times it is even more important that there is the chance to enter the world of learning that brings together adults of all different ages and backgrounds to follow an interest, acquire a new skills, learn how to support their children and family, become healthier. We know from learners past and present that learning leads to greater confidence, better health and greater community engagement, as well as improving employment prospects.

These are some comments from students on this year’s programmes:
“Being old isn’t all about the past. The Class included some computer literacy work which I found especially useful – you’re never too old to learn!” (Learner in Age UK ICT and Reminiscence class)

“I made a pop-up book and read to my son. I used the library for the first time and took home books to read to my son”( Learner in Get Your Child Reading programme)

“Excellent resources, we were given very useful handouts & practice exercises. We were further supported all the time by the tutor and support staff. The course was taught at a pace just right for my age group and we got a lot of personal support from the tutor and her assistant. Excellent service” (Learner in ICT class at Harrow Association for the Disabled)

“She (the tutor) is the facilitator for all my inspirations” (learner on Art course at Harrow Art Centre)

We remain a community-based service, with courses meeting in libraries, community centres, church halls, Harrow Mosque, the SKSS temple and many other venues across the borough. However we would like to hear from you about ideas for further courses and activities you would like to see on.
