General information

The original business was started in 1975 after deciding to leave the majors and to become an indie. We originally traded as Olav Wyper Limited, managing recording artists, bands, record producers, songwriters, including Mike Moran, Landscape, Trevor Walters, DiAnno, producer Richard Niles, producer Steve Rowlands, classical guitarist, Bay City Rollers front man Les McKeown, producer Tony Taverner and others. Acted for a number of years as European consultant to Japan’s JVC Victor Records.
With Japanese promoter Hayashi International, organised Japanese presentations of a number of London shows; including Singing In The Rain, with the original West End cast led by Tommy Steele, and several tours by London City Ballet, whose patron was Princess Diana. Also partners with Kaz Utsunomiya (Virgin Records NY) in KO-Operation Limited, a Japanese management company representing Yuroshito Music, The Yellow Magic Orchestra, Riyuchi Sakamoto, Akkiko Yano, Stomu Yamashta, Ippudo, The Mods, Newsbeats etc.
By 1993 SMA was already established as a leading composer management company and we changed the name to Soundtrack Music Associates Limited and in 1997 opened Soundtrack Music Associates LLC in Los Angeles in partnership with Tony Smith’s Hit & Run Music Group.
The change to SMA Talent Limited in 2003 came as a result of our intention to expand the business into other areas of talent representation although composers remain the company’s core business.
In November 2012 Lesley Jackson joined the team as a composer agent and marketing strategist.
2013 has seen an expansion into managing Film & tv directors and screenwriters.
