General information

Working Title Films, co-chaired by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner since 1992, is one of the world’s leading film production companies.

Founded in 1983, Working Title has made over 100 films that have grossed over $6 billion worldwide.

Its films have won 11 Academy Awards (for Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables, Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina, Tim Robbins’ Dead Man Walking; Joel and Ethan Coen’s Fargo; Shekhar Kapur’s Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age; Joe Wright’s Atonement; and James Marsh’s The Theory of Everything), 38 BAFTA Awards, and numerous prestigious prizes at the Cannes and Berlin International Film Festivals.

Bevan and Fellner have been honoured with the Producers Guild of America’s David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures, the PGA’s highest honour for motion picture producers.

They have also been accorded two of the highest film awards given to British filmmakers; the Michael Balcon Award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema, at the Orange British Academy Film [BAFTA] Awards, and the Alexander Walker Film Award at the Evening Standard British Film Awards. They have also both been honored with CBEs (Commanders of the Order of the British Empire).

Working Title enjoys ongoing and successful creative collaborations with filmmakers including the Coen Brothers, Richard Curtis, Stephen Daldry, Paul Greengrass, Edgar Wright, and Joe Wright; and actors Rowan Atkinson, Cate Blanchett, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Saoirse Ronan, Gary Oldman and Emma Thompson, among others.

Its extensive and diverse productions (in addition to those mentioned above) have included Mike Newell’s Four Weddings and a Funeral; Richard Curtis’ Love Actually and About Time; Stephen Daldry’s Billy Elliot and Trash; Roger Michell’s Notting Hill; both Bean movies (directed by Mel Smith and Steve Bendelack, respectively); Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End; Paul and Chris Weitz’ About a Boy; Greg Mottola’s Paul; Adam Brooks’ Definitely, Maybe; Sydney Pollack’s The Interpreter; both Bridget Jones movies (directed by Sharon Maguire and Beeban Kidron, respectively); Joe Wright’s Pride & Prejudice and Atonement; Baltasar Kormákur’s Contraband, starring Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale; both Nanny McPhee movies (directed by Kirk Jones and Susanna White, respectively); both Johnny English movies (directed by Peter Howitt and Oliver Parker, respectively); Asif Kapadia’s Senna, the company’s first documentary feature, about legendary race car driver Ayrton Senna; Paul Greengrass’ United 93; and Ron Howard’s Frost/Nixon and Rush.

The success of the film Billy Elliot has continued on stage with Billy Elliot the Musical. Directed by Stephen Daldry with book and lyrics by Lee Hall and music by Elton John, the show has won over 80 theatre awards internationally and has been seen around the world by over 10 million people. Billy Elliot continues its highly successful run in London’s West End where it will celebrate its 10th birthday in May. Productions have also been staged on Broadway where the show won 10 Tony Awards, as well as in Sydney, Melbourne, Chicago, Toronto and Seoul, South Korea. The North American touring production, which began in 2010, finished its spectacular run in August 2013 with an engagement in São Paulo, Brazil, the first time Billy Elliot played in South America. The show began performances in the Netherlands in November last year and continues at the AFAS Circus theater in The Hague, and further international productions are planned.

Working Title’s 2015/2016 film slate includes Everest, directed by Baltasar Kormákur starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke and Josh Brolin; Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl, starring Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander; Legend, directed by Brian Helgeland and starring Tom Hardy as both Ronnie and Reggie Kray; Max Joseph’s We Are Your Friends starring Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowsi; and the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! with an all-star cast including Josh Brolin, Scarlett Johansson, George Clooney and Channing Tatum.

Working Title TV is based in London and LA and is a joint venture between NBC Universal International, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. The UK office is headed up by Juliette Howell, the LA office by Gina Girolamo.

The UK office is currently developing projects across all UK broadcasters and has excellent co-production relationships with US broadcasters including NBC, HBO, PBS, ABC and BBC America.

Past productions include MARY & MARTHA, written by Richard Curtis, directed by Phillip Noyce and starring Hilary Swank and Brenda Blethyn, the critically acclaimed and BAFTA-winning BIRDSONG starring Eddie Redmayne and adapted by Abi Morgan, and BBC One’s hit Christmas film THE BORROWERS. Recent series include Sky 1’s fantasy-comedy YONDERLAND, and BBC One series TRUE LOVE and THE SECRETS, whose star-studded cast included Olivia Colman, Alison Steadman, Joanne Froggatt, David Tennant, Jane Horrocks and Ashley Walters.

Currently in production are: LONDON SPY starring Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling for BBC Two, 10-part series APOCALYPSE SLOUGH starring Rob Lowe, Jenna Fischer, Mat Baynton and Megan Mullally for Sky 1, and a second series of YONDERLAND for Sky 1.

The US office has a first look deal with Universal Television and is currently developing projects for both broadcast and cable networks. The second series of ABOUT A BOY starring David Walton, Minnie Driver, Ben Stockham, Al Madrigal and Annie Mumolo has just transmitted on NBC.
