Overview

Responsible 100 is a powerful new way to help any business better balance its pursuit of profit with the interests of wider society. It combines a management tool, a business ranking, a public internet platform, an identification mark and a growing social movement.

Responsible 100 simultaneously enables businesses to balance their pursuit of profit with the interests of society, and empowers people - consumers, employees, neighbours, suppliers - to identify and support such businesses.

What We Do

We have created a simple, powerful, flexible process that can help any business improve its social, environmental and ethical practices. We have developed a questionnaire for businesses, with expert input and support from a wide variety of organisations. The questionnaire consists of 43 questions covering 7 topic areas - community, environment, ethical choices, finance and governance, human rights, market place and workforce. The questions are designed to help businesses consider important social, environmental and ethical issues in a practical, constructive way. We are currently working with 30 businesses.

Businesses submit draft responses explaining what they do, how and why. We then provide feedback as well as request additional and/or clearer information where required. The process continues until both sides feel that answers are complete, accurate and verifiable. Once an answer is accepted, we assess it against a scorecard. Ratings are developed to determine the differences between exemplary, commendable, justifiable and unacceptable business practices on any given responsibility issue. Finally, businesses choose which scored answers to make available for public scrutiny.

Your opinions matter!

Once answers have been published online, anybody is free to review, comment and rate the answers. This is an opportunity for you to tell businesses what they are doing well and what they can do better. Through this process, we make businesses accountable and work towards responsible business for a better world.
