General information

Through our medical expertise, nursing skills and specialist support services, we provide physical, emotional and spiritual care to over 3,200 patients and their families each year.

We put our patients at the heart of all we do; treating symptoms, controlling pain and caring for their emotional, psychological and spiritual needs. We support the whole family through a wide range of services such as intensive care in our inpatient units, care at home, outpatient care, complimentary therapies and bereavement support for those who need it. We also support a wide range of carers, young and old. We provide care and support for families and friends for as long as they need us. We rely on over 1,200 volunteers to help deliver our care.

Hospices are normally associated with cancer. We care for anyone with a life shortening illness including motor-neurone disease, cardiac failure, renal failure, chronic respiratory disease and other life shortening conditions.

We provide our services for free. St. Margaret’s is a charity – we are not part of the NHS. Our income comes from the NHS and charitable sources from our local community. It costs over £10m each year to run our service. After NHS funding we still need to raise £7.5m to deliver our care. We are dependent upon the generosity of our Somerset Community.
