Club History;

Although Stanley Street Sports and Social Club is a private members club, we retain membership of the Federation of Railway Clubs, who are affiliated to the Association of British Clubs. It all began around 60 years ago when a group of railway workers decided to establish their own club. British Railways owned a piece of land along the Lincoln to Sheffield railway line that fitted the bill. But the tin hut premises soon proved to be inadequate as membership was opened to local bus company employees. It was soon replaced by a single story building known as The Railway Club before becoming the Stanley Street Sport and Social Club in 1991. Nowadays the club boasts a very sound financial position with a committee of 6, plus three officers and four trustees to oversee day-to-day matters.

Membership is open all year round however you must have two members who know you to propose and second your membership form. The joining fee is £12.50 with renewal at £5 a year every January (identification when paying and picking your door card up is required) Membership forms can be found behind the bar just ask one of the staff and they will be happy to help. Your membership application will first have to be passed by the Management Committee before your name is put on the notice board for two weeks to allow time for any objections to be made against your application by existing club members.

Weekly Activities;

Tuesday Club - Over 65s - 1pm onwards (Dominoes, Raffle and Bingo)

Wednesday & Fridays are bingo nights. 5 sessions of bingo every half an hour from 8.30pm onwards. A full strip of tickets per session (2 games) is £1.20 with a raffle at 9:45pm run by one of our many sections including an 'open the box' draw following the raffle.

Thursday is Ballroom Dance night from 7.30pm onwards. (Free for all members)

Saturday & Sunday are entertainment nights with free live duo, trios and bands usually performing 3 half an hour spots from 8.15 pm onwards along with 3 sessions of bingo throughout the night with a full strip of tickets per session (2 games) costing £1.80

Sunday dinner - 3 sessions of bingo every half an hour from 12.30pm-1.30pm. Full strip of tickets per session (2 games) costing £1.80.

The 'open the box' raffle is run every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights - £1 per strip of tickets with the chance to be drawn out to win the prize money generated from the sales and to try and open the box with 1 of the 21 keys for a cheque for £1,000 pounds.

Club Facilities;

Newly refurbished 200 seated concert room, Bar Lounge Area, Quiet room 'the snug' (ideal for meetings) 2 Snooker Tables, Pool Table Table Tennis, Bowling Green, Darts, Dominoes, Cards, 3 TV Screens, well maintained Garden and two smoking areas.
