Regent Language Training

General information

Regent is one of the oldest school groups in the industry. It was established in 1964 as Regent London in Oxford Street and so celebrated 50 years last year.

It is a multi-location brand with a wide course offer covering adults and juniors. It has a history of pioneering academic innovation (first summer school 1965, executive centres 1972/1974 (with 6 in a group); home tuition 1995; 2010 English World course with 1:1 coaching and Knowledge for a Global Community).

Regent was founded as a response to poorly organised schools, by experienced, energetic teacher David Mariano who wanted to provide a proper school, with proper teachers and proper courses.

Today, the schools are ones in which a culture of learning is fostered both in and outside the classroom. Teachers are hired for their ability to enthuse – training and development is commonplace. People have always been recognised as being important within Regent. The courses maintain a structured learning approach with clear learning outcomes for learners.

The founder’s vision of a proper school, with proper teachers and proper courses lives on strongly in the current attributes of the brand:

Inclusivity – Regent students form a community with the staff. Teachers and admin staff are involved in the leisure programme; the leisure programme links with the educational programme. Students feel recognised, valued and helped to belong.

Positivity - Regent students are helped to develop positive beliefs about themselves and their ability to grow linguistically and in other ways to achieve their goals. This is achieved through coaching techniques and making their progress visible to them and through vicarious experiences of others within the community.

Results-focused – Regent students are helped to achieve the results they need for the next stage in their life or career, such as evidenced through exam results.
