Keele University, Observatory Company Information

General information

The Keele Observatory operates a large 24” Thornton reflector telescope in addition to a separate 12.25” refracting telescope, both used for 'astronomical physics' research.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We welcome visits from the public every Tuesday evening (8-10pm) and Saturday morning (1-3pm), free entry.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Weather permitting, on Tuesdays you will be offered breathtaking views of celestial objects through the ancient 12.25” Grubb refractor and on Saturdays we offer you views of the Sun using our brand new solar equipment. If the weather does not cooperate, we will still be happy to show you around the exhibits and have a chat.

We also offer 'telescope surgeries' to help you use, repair or even buy your telescope, however, we do ask that you contact us in advance for this.

If you are a group – including schools – wishing to visit the observatory, please contact us to arrange a visit in advance. Schools may also be interested in the Star Dome (www.keele.ac.uk/stardome), an inflatable dome with a planetarium show. We are a Children's University approved learning destination.
