The Royal Oak Inn - Leighterton Company Information

General information

The beautiful Grade II listed Royal Oak at Leighterton is thought to date from the 1700s to 1800s. In recent years, the building has undergone extensive renovation which saw it carefully restored whilst ensuring that it stayed faithful to its origins.

Your hosts, Will and Kat, are proud to be the custodians of this quintessentially English country pub, serving local and regional ales, ciders and perries, high quality locally sourced food and a range of great value wines, all wrapped up in warm, convivial hospitality.

With a true Cotswold village pub atmosphere, the Royal Oak offers roaring log fires in winter and a pretty walled garden for outdoor dining in summer. BBC’s Doomsday Reloaded described the Royal Oak as "more likely a village pub than many in the Cotswolds".

Ample parking is provided in our private car park within the grounds of the pub.

Whether you’d like a three-course lunch, dinner, a simple bar snack, or just a relaxing drink, the Royal Oak will offer you a warm welcome in an idyllic country setting.

The Royal Oak is a few miles south-west of Tetbury, surrounded by rolling countryside and picturesque Cotswold villages. Badminton, Highgrove House, Westonbirt Arboretum and the Cotswold Way are within a stone’s throw. Bristol, Bath, Cheltenham and Cirencester are a short drive away. Our GPS co-ordinates are: 51.6193° N, 2.2564° W

The Monarch’s Way – the 615 mile route that Charles II took when fleeing Cromwell's troops after the Battle of Worcester in 1651 – traverses Leighterton, passing through the site of the pub. Ours is the only Royal Oak pub situated directly on the Monarch’s Way route.

The village’s ancient church – St. Andrews – dates from the 13th century. The cemetery is the resting place for twenty four members of the Australian Flying Corps, who were stationed at RAF Leighterton and served during the First World War. The Royal British Legion holds an annual ANZAC Day Parade and Service in the village to remember those who died.

As a free house, the Royal Oak has an excellent selection of local and guest ales, craft lagers, ciders, perries, and delicious wines. Your favourite tipple can be enjoyed in our cosy bar, snug, tap room, library room or in our lovely walled garden.

Our talented chefs create a range of classic dishes, innovative specials and scrummy puddings using seasonal local and regional ingredients whenever they are available.

Meals are served in the bar, snugs, the informal dining room and, weather permitting, in the walled garden.

Booking is advisable for weekends and large groups. We are normally closed on Mondays, except on public holidays, in which case we are open from 12:00 to 17:00 (food orders until 15:30)
