Broomhill Park Company Information

General information

Broomhill Park lies at the top of the highest hill in Strood, yet many locals are unaware of its existence. Between the trees there are spectacular views over Rochester, Chatham, and the River Medway.

The long-term ambitions for the park is to enlarge the public space to incorporate the woodland including glades for picnic areas. We also wish to provide picnic areas around the existing park, all suitably furnished, along with improvements of the parking facilities and add amenity buildings.

You can help us

What could be more fun than getting out into the open air for a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon? Plus you can really make a difference!!All ages and abilities welcome, (children accompanied by responsible adult please) tools supplied, and all work is safely supervised by Park Rangers.

The Friends of Broomhill are just ordinary residents like yourself who are trying to make the park a better place. We are only as good or bad as our membership allows.

We need residents to show their support, not only by helping with the scrub clearing and planting days and active involvement in 'Fun Days', but also by subscribing a small amount to become a member.

Membership is only £5 for the year. Please visit our website

Our achievements over the last five years are -

Bollards put up to stop fly-tipping.

Friends notice board and hill finger boards erected.

Involved the Payback Team and young Offenders in clearing litter and weeding.

Dialogue set up between the Friends, council and owners of the orchard which augurs well for future co-operation.

Monitoring anti-social behaviour and liaising with the Strood North PCSO's (led by PC Mick O'Meara), who now constantly patrol the area.

Where we have cleared the scrub and got the Council to keep various areas clear, there has been a marked decrease in anti-social behaviour.

Our latest success is getting the Council to take ownership of the Brompton Lane to Peyps Way footpath and in so doing, refurbished the surface and improved the lighting. The Council have named it 'Friends' Walk.

In the near future, we are hopeful that the 'Two Rivers' View' (a spot where you will be able to see the Thames and The Medway) will be opened up again.

Bins and benches improved.

Children's and teenagers' recreational facilities up-graded and added to.

Bulb and wild flower planting.

but with your help we could do more!
