Elisabeth James Antiques is a family run business born out of decades of professional work specialising in the fine antique furniture trade and now culminates in a trade type antiques warehouse just off Junction 15 of the M1 about 1 hour from London. We have eliminated the huge retailing costs from our overheads and subsequent prices by consolidating a tremendous stock of quality original English antique furniture in a low overhead antique warehouse where we can maintain very high product standards, keep prices low, offer tremendous choice and most importantly restore this wonderful antique furniture to exemplary standards using traditional techniques. We are reluctant to use the word ‘cheap’ to describe our products and services but, by comparison with the whole UK quality antiques market place, we believe there is no other antique furniture specialist offering the same standards at our prices.
Our core area of speciality is antique dining tables and associated antique dining furniture and we believe, under our humble roofs, to hold the largest collection of quality tables in World. We fortunately have continual visitors from London and Home Counties but folk do travel from all over the World to see us and it would be very rare for anybody not to be hugely impressed by our extensive stock covering Period oak refectory tables, Georgian & Regency pedestal tables and Victorian & Edwardian extending dining tables, etc. We of course stock the associated sets of antique dining chairs in the elusive quantities to fill such large dining tables and pretty much all large scale antique furnishings for period homes.
Fairly uniquely our antique furniture is preserved here in its original condition to allow our customers to specify exactly the extent of restoration required and desired shade and polishing. Many of the early Georgian, Regency and Victorian pieces come from estate homes where they have been much loved through the generations but now require sympathetic restoration to bring back to their best. We have an in house team of eleven professional traditional antique furniture restorers working to deliver the very highest standards of cabinet work, classic hand French polishing or modern durable finishes to your specification if required. This is most helpful, as example, when trying to match your perfect Georgian antique dining table with a set of antique chairs and a maybe a Georgian sideboard to complete a period dining room. We can quite literally, in the restoration and polishing process, bring all the pieces to look like they have lived together happily forever. Indeed, this service extends to polishing any piece to match your existing furniture whether a dining room, drawing room or bedroom piece, etc..
Sadly there is very little quality untouched original antique furniture emerging now in the UK and even fewer antique furniture professionals offering bespoke and quality traditional restoration. So whether you are looking for an antique dining table, large set of chairs, antique desk, bookcase or sideboard, we will always offer an extensive stock choice to view 7 days a week. With a very personal and friendly service we will ensure you achieve ownership of the standard of original antique furniture and finishing that is very rare outside of the high end antique furniture retailers in the West End of London. But of course all at a fraction of the price and nothing like the amateur hobbyist standard of products and unskilled restoration that seems to be general offering on the internet these days.
