Hanse House

General information

Hanse House is a Grade 1 listed building and only surviving hanseatic warehouse in England. The building entered private ownership in November 2011, plans were approved in July 2012, and with refurbishment works almost complete public access to the building has already increased, with a wide range of offerings now available.
Ideally located in the old town between Lynn Minster and the quayside, we are establishing ourselves as a wedding venue with a difference and aim for your special day to be everything you want it to be and more! From the exposed timbers of the Hanse Suite to the Georgian elegance of The Blue Drawing Room, our ceremony rooms offer a choice both in style and size, and have been carefully refurbished both to complement their original period features and to reflect contemporary tastes. We also have function rooms suitable for wedding receptions and other events, whilst a wide range of catering options are available from our chefs in The Rathskeller.
The carefully selected furniture and décor of The Rathskeller Bistro, accompanied by great views of the river and the exposed timbers of the crown post roof have resulted in the perfect environment for fine dining; whilst the outdoor seating area takes full advantage of the quayside location. Featuring oak panelling with copper accents, the wine bar has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, offering a wide range of refreshments both if you are dining in the bistro or calling in to socialise with friends over a few drinks. The Rathskeller also has a facebook page, so if you're good enough to like us, why not give them a like too?!
We have created the perfect gallery and exhibition space on the first floor, located in The Hamburg Suite. Please see the ‘What’s On’ section of our website for details of our current exhibition, and ‘Past Events’ for a record of shows we have had in the past.
The Indoor Craft Market is up and running too! German merchants were based here in the 15th century, so it’s really exciting to see the building trading again. There is also a tea room in the market, perfect if you find yourself in need of refreshment, which you can enjoy either in the cafe itself or in our lovely courtyard.
Space is one thing we’re not short of at Hanse House. With a variety of rooms in different shapes and sizes, all of different character, we hope to have something for everyone; business conferences and training, evening courses, workshops; maybe a club that meets once a week or once a month.
Bookings can be regular or one-off; they might be for a week, a day or for a couple of hours. We can also provide catering services from The Rathskeller to your chosen room should you require, or you can break for refreshments in the relaxed surroundings of the bar or bistro. Menus can be tailored to your preferences.
