General information
Orthoptics is a small but crucial field of Ophthalmology, specialising in eye co-ordination and motility disorders. With three universities in Liverpool, Sheffield and Glasgow training the new workforce, Orthoptics is an ever- growing profession. With Orthoptists on the front lines of the NHS, we are clinically trained to improve vision in young children, relieve double vision in adults and improve the appearance of lazy eyes or squints.
BIOS is a professional and educational body that supports Orthoptists in the UK and Republic of Ireland; it is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Membership is open to all Orthoptists holding a Diploma of the British and Irish Orthoptic Society or a recognised degree in Orthoptics from the UK, European Union or worldwide.
