General information

Laverstock is nestled in the Marshwood Vale at the foot of Lewesdon Hill and Pilsdon Pen in rural West Dorset, approximately six miles from Bridport & West Bay and eleven miles from Lyme Regis. Laverstock is a wonderful place to relax and explore West Dorset, East Devon and the Jurassic Coast. It is perfect if you enjoy walking or simply wish to escape busy life because we are surrounded by beautiful countryside and have extensive footpaths on the farm and surrounding area.

From Laverstock you can walk for hours through acres of private woodland and climb Dorset’s two highest hills. A stream passes alongside the wood which makes for a perfect place to rest or picnic and absorb the tranquillity and natural beauty of Laverstock. The farm enjoys far reaching views over the Marshwood Vale and out to sea. So don’t forget your walking boots or wellies!

Laverstock is perfect for children and most cottages have private gardens. We have also set aside a large area of communal gardens for our guests which are bordered by a picturesque small stream. Our half mile long drive is perfect for teaching children to ride their bike or use their scooter. The drive is flat so is perfect for pushchairs too. Travel cots, high chairs and babysitting service are available on request. Don’t worry if you don’t have children, the estate is big enough for everyone so you won’t be disturbed.
Our shepherds hut is new for 2013. It was hand built specially for us by Plankbridge and their attention to detail is second to none. It is so well insulated that it is cosy in winter and cool in the summer. The shepherds hut is currently sited along the Woodland Walk whilst we finish the landscaping to our large secluded pond. We are waiting for the ground to dry after the winter’s rain but hope to be finished this summer.

Laverstock is a perfect holiday destination for dogs too and, with prior notice, we welcome well behaved dogs in three of our properties. We do charge a small supplement to cover any additional cleaning that may be necessary.

Laverstock provides a perfect base to visit the many beaches along the Jurassic Coast. The nearest beach is 6 miles away and we recommend that you visit Burton Bradstock, West Bay, Eype, Seatown, Charmouth and Lyme Regis. The closest town is Bridport which is a thriving market town with lots of independent shops and a street market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Jurassic Coast covers 25 miles of coastline and has been designated a World Heritage Site.

On your left as you enter Laverstock and has picnic tables and bridges over the stream. We also have a games room for guests with a table tennis table, table football, darts.

You are welcome to see our free range chickens and ducks in the Orchard and feed them your left over bread and vegetables. We leave half a dozen
eggs in each cottage with an honestly box, should you wish to try them. They are very different from shop bought eggs! Yummy.

At weekends, we offer Bed and Breakfast in our cottages all year round. The main house is open for Bed and Breakfast on certain dates throughout the
year, such as for local weddings. We can offer Bed and Breakfast during the week on request, so please ask. Our breakfasts are delicious and we use local farm produce where we can – along with our own eggs!

If you love good food, you will love West Dorset. There are lots of places to eat good local food and all budgets are covered. Our local farm shop, Washingpool has won numerous awards, both for the shop and restaurant, and sells everything you will need. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s 1st and 2nd River Cottage were within 2 miles of Laverstock and the 2009 winner of Master Chef’s restaurant is 3 miles away.
