General information

Marina Studios is managed by husband and wife team JP & Annelies Omari, owners of Streetfunk. Marina Studios is also be the proud home of Streetfunk and the proud home of the current 'Under 14 UDO Street Dance World Champions' - Stereoshok AND South Coast Street Dance Champions - BN1

Streetfunk is an award winning family-run Hip Hop dance school established by JP Omari in 2003. We are based in Brighton & Hove and, in addition to our own weekly classes, we deliver projects teaching Hip Hop dance to young people and adults across East and West Sussex. We have worked with at-risk children from across Brighton and East Sussex, The Youth Offending Team, children with learning and physical disabilities, adults with mental health problems, pre-school children and ethnical minority children.

Parents and carers constantly tell us that since joining our classes their children have become healthier, more confident, better at communicating and increasingly enjoy learning as part of a team. We have seen huge personalities emerge from the most shy of students. Our ethics include heavy emphasis on peer-to-peer mentoring and our classes are based on stage, not age. Which allows every student to get the most from their class, without feeling left behind or under-challenged.

Our vision was to make dance accessible to everyone, especially boys and instil the ethics of hard work, discipline and respect. We now dream of creating a community hub where dance, fitness, the arts and sports can be accessed by everyone in our city.

For the last 10 years, we have been able to run successful projects and deliver sessions without the help of any public funding, reaching out to thousands of children and young people and bringing many artists into the city. However, we have now been presented with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring these dreams to fruition.

We are currently embarking on the exciting (and slightly daunting) task of rennovating a beautiful huge retail space at Brighton Marina into a professional, quality dance complex comprising of 3 studios with the capacity to teach a total of 100 students at any one time, large social/reception are, showers and changing rooms.
