The Crown Inn at Marnhull offers the comfort & quality of the 21st century in its spectacularly timeless setting, which lies in the Blackmore Vale in North Dorset. The thatched part of the building dates back to the 16th century, with original wooden beams, flagstone flooring, inglenook fireplace, a feature priest hole & the Plank & Mutton wooden wall, giving the inn a unique character & charm & an inviting country feel.

The Crown Inn also features in Thomas Hardy's most famous novel, Tess of the d'Urbervilles, as the 'Pure Drop Inn', situated in the quaint village of 'Marlott' (Hardy's name for Marnhull). The bar has remained untouched since Mr Hardy himself frequented often during his life time of successful writing.

Under new management as of September 2015, publicans Gemma & Monty are using their combined expertise of 12 years in the pub trade to enhance The Crown in its entirety, offering a friendly, comfortable & memorable experience whatever the occasion.

With 30 years of experience in the chef trade as a Warrant Officer Class One in the Royal Marines, Monty oversees the kitchen team, using only the freshest local, seasonal produce & offering an extensive menu, as well as a variety of homemade pies, fish dishes & selected daily specials.

Our signature Crown Carvery is also served every Sunday, with a choice of 4 perfectly cooked meats, alongside a wide range of freshly cooked vegetable dishes.

Delicious food is served in the library restaurant, cosy bar areas near to roaring log fires in the winter, The Hardy suites for a touch of history or in the beautiful walled secret garden for al fresco summer dining.

The Menus are complimented by real ales served to perfection, refreshing lagers, draft & bottled country ciders, a choice of wines, soft drinks, spirits & digestifs.

The luxurious accommodation features natural beams, stonework walls, antique furnishings, deep roll top baths & timeless elegant decor. Perfect for a relaxing evening or as a weekend getaway to explore the villages of Hardy's Wessex. A complementary breakfast is also served.
